Interviews

Hey bro - here's the interview, thanks for the opportunity and support ! ;

1. Tell me a little bit about your band/project.
Bassookah is a drum'n'bass grindcore act from The Netherlands, existing out of two long-time friends KANZA (vocals, bass, programming, sampling) and XORMIC (guitars, backing vocals). This project was born in 2008 under the name ZxMxM but really got some solid shapes in 2010 when the bandname was changed into the current one. We've released a bunch of EPs and splits, appeared on a bunch of compilations and played gigs all over our home country The Netherlands... so the disease is spreading, haha.

2. What kind of music/band's inspire you to write and record?
Ohh our influences are very wide, from drum'n'bass to grindcore and from breakcore to gore- and cybergrind. Some bands that have directly influenced us are M.A.C. of Mad, BBYB, Bong-Ra, Drumcorps, Zardonic, The Berzerker, Atari Teenage Riot, The Prodigy, Noisia, CBT, ...

3. Name somthing that pisses you off.
Among many other things - ANIMAL ABUSE !

4. Why would people be interested in listening to your band/project?
Because we offer something crazy ! A mixture of grindcore and drum'n'bass isn't really common up front, but with our tongue-in-cheek approach and variety in rhytms and breaks, we most probably are something you haven't heard before... even if you turn out to hate us !

5. What is your oppinion on FREE downloading.
Free downloading is great. About 95% of the things we have released or appeared on are free download releases - it's today's most effective way to get your music heard overseas, in Cuba, in North Korea, in Ghana or in your neighbour's living room. Oh, and in Ireland too !

6. How much do you hate GORECYST?
We don't - in fact, we can't wait to make love with it until the end of times... !

7. Any last comments?
Support Gorecyst and join the forum ! To you readers - thanks for reading the interview all the way to here. Now that you have reached this new emotional highlight, you might check our noises as well ; www.myspace.com/zxmxm - and drop a comment or two, we won't bite... this time... !

Cheers bro !
Gerardo (KANZA)

Hey,
Thanks for writing.
Here are my answers!

1.Tell me a little bit about your band/project.

Blue Holocaust isn't a real band, I'm alone playing everything on this. Just me fucking around with guitars and stuff. It's simply Gore/Grind the way I'd like to hear it. Activity's been slow lately.
But I have a Split EP with brazilian grind gods Expurgo coming up (check out their awesome full length album!), label Jennifer Grind from Italy is sending it to press real soon.
Split EP with Roskopp (Australia) is still slated to happen too (on Last House on the Right), it's almost done but I can't seem to get it totally finished... I'm really frustrated with my sound production.
Also I'd like to start working on my second full length one of these days, it's called "Flesh for the Cannibal God" and it's a concept album about... italian cannibal movies! I have the riff ideas, artwork, lyrics all in my head (and some sketched on paper) but I need to put it all together and really get to work on it. I'd like a thick booklet with tons of art, etc... I'm thinking about releasing this one myself. Maybe limited to 500 copies or something.

2.What kind of music/bands inspire you to write and record?

Early Napalm Death/Carcass & Regurgitate are what I inspire to sound like the most. Also Gore Beyond Necropsy/Catasexual Urge Motivation, Dead Infection, Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage and tons more...
I'm also inspired by Impetigo for their cinephilic approach to lyrics. And sometimes I'm a little inspired by movie composers like Ennio Morricone, Bruno Nicolai, Piero Umiliani... sometimes I like to infuse bits of easy listening kind of beats into my drum programming or nods to some of these movie soundtracks.

3.Name somthing that pisses you off.

I'm so apathetic these days, I rarely get pissed off about anything anymore, I'm permanently semi-sickened by everybody and everything, in equal measure.

4.Why would people be interested in listening to your band/project?

Good question. I have no idea man. You have to have a high tolerance for awful sound production. If you like really raw Gore/Grind and old school riffs, I'm trying to write catchy and fast tunes, not just noise. My songs rarely go over 1 minute to keep it from getting boring. I'm writing actual lyrics for all of my songs. If you're into cult italian movies like giallo, horror, cannibal flicks... I'm really respectful (=a huge geek) about these movies... For example if you're into a director like Mario Bava my Split EP with Expurgo is all about movies like Black Sunday, Kill Baby Kill, Whip and the Body, Black Sabbath, etc... My stuff is like a tribute to these flicks...

5.What is your oppinion on free downloading?

Free downloading, of copyrighted stuff you mean or something? It's bad I guess, but I do it anyway. Honestly it levelled my enthusiasm for music to the ground. Everything is so easy to get, I'm not really looking for new shit anymore, I really don't care. I mostly only listen to the same old stuff nowadays. Oh, now I'm reminded of something I'm really pissed off about. My ipod got wiped clean recently, I have to download and import tons of stuff for it all over again, fuck that shit!

6.How much do you HATE gorecyst?

Heh, this looks good... I haven't made a significant update on my own Braindead Webzine in forever... Cool to see other zines out and about...

7.Any last comments?

Well let me plug my shit right there...
Braindead Webzine is at: www.grindgore.net
Blue Holocaust at: www.myspace.com/blackglovedsadist - www.blueholocaust.grindgore.net (site needs serious updating though)

Thanks for the interview and attention!
Cheers.

Pierre.

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions, pierre. And for  all you that have not heard BLUEHOLOCAUST check that fucking shit out!.If it wasent for WWW.GRINDGORE.NET , this Webzine and gorecyst as a whole probably would not exist.

1. Tell me a little bit about your band/project.

The Masked Stranger is a force of musical agony that came into being roughly six or seven years prior to this interview.
It began with the panflute (technically it should be called the Critch-flute), the first instrument I ever recorded
with. This first recording was called "The River Song". Since then The Masked Stranger has been pursuing a rather dark
muse, evidenced by the sprawling collection of wretching audio experiments and mutations that one may rarely find on
the dusty shelf of a distant neighbour or the elegant back of a broken radio that everyone has abandoned for the
machines of the future. These nightmarish explorations of The Fields Of Dytch and the surrounding territories are my
musical dedications to the creative forces that live within me. Thus far a singular full length recording by the name
of "Where?" and a large host of semi-released EPs have been birthed by the terrible womb that is filled by my mind's
coital meetings with my muse. Amoung these Welcome To The Fields Of Dytch and The Critch Of Dytch's Tendrils are most
readily accessible.

2.What kind of music/band's inspire you to write and record?

Namely acts such as Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Portal, Mayhem, Watain, and a select collection other bands one might
find on this mortal plane. However, I am probably more significantly influenced by the abominable history of the
Fields Of Dytch and all the horror that surrounds them. My project is essentially the musical expression of my
knowledge of this nightmarish wonderland. So although earthly bands and musicians have indeed alerted me to the
idea of making music, I have always endeavoured to maintain a pursuit of the original and the avant garde, I have no
interest in recreating the sounds of the past or the present and thus I have not stooped to emulating or mimicing
my earthly influences.

3.Name somthing that pisses you off.

Words. Words can be wonderful, don't get me wrong. But people tend not to liberate their tongues from monotony with
poetic and expressive speech and as a result, their messages are lost in the haze between minds. This often causes
words like "music" and "art" to be objectified and pre packaged with expectations of normality and strict adherence
to what I perceive as non-existant rules. The lowly critic whom points his cowardly finger and says "that's just noise,
not music!" is a fool twice over: once, for thinking he has the authority to say what is art and isn't; secondly,
for not seeing that noise and music are quite interchangeable and can even be married to truly wonderful effect, for
once ignorance's trifling notions have been dropped, a whole new world of musical experience can be found.

4.Why would people be interested in listening to your band/project?

Quite simply because The Masked Stranger is a force of originality and creativity in the vein of both the abrasive and
the strangely melodic. Every piece I have created has its own very recognizable identity and as a result the variety
amoungst my material is (if I do say so myself) staggering. I have no limits and I have no rules, only a muse. The
Masked Stranger is raw musical expression, devoid of the familiar and the common. If one enjoys truly inspired music,
then they shall certainly enjoy what I have to offer.

5.What is your oppinion on FREE downloading.

Go right ahead. I honestly don't care. Either someone is a really big fan and wants to buy a physical copy of one of my
recordings, or they just want to check it out without having to dip into precious and rather scarce funds. Regardless
of the method of attainment, they will likely show someone else my project and spread word of my existence, and
somewhere in the twists and turns of mutually beneficial networking, someone is bound to purchase a copy or two and that
is enough for me. Notoriety and the infectious spreading of my music is far more valuable than money, and my own
personal satisfaction with what I do is even more important and valuable.

6.how much do you hate GORECYST?

With all my wretched heart! ;)

7.any last comments?

The Fields Of Dytch look forward to raping your minds with straw tendrils and horrid mutations of flesh.

Aloha,

I figured as the new guy, I should provide some info on my project and your lazy man's interview is perfect for that (I'm lazy as well so it makes sense :D)

1. Tell me a little bit about your band/project.

A.I.C.D. (short for AIDS Infected Cunt Destruction) was formed in 2010 basically just out of curiosity. I had been introduced to Goregrind that year and wondered, whether or not it'd be possible to create Goregrind with just FL Studio and Audacity. After fooling around a bit the first tracks were recorded and the project took on a life of it's own, resulting in my first 5 Track EP. In 2011 I recorded my first full length Album.
I don't take myself very seriously though, A.I.C.D. started as something I was doing just for fun and that's the way I want to keep it: loud, fast music and a certain trash factor that incorporates cheesy horror movie samples, bad porn dialogues and anything else that I can get my grubby hands on.

2.What kind of music/band's inspire you to write and record?

A lot of gore/porngrind bands like 2 Minuta Dreka, Cock and Ball Torture, Decomposing Serenity, Rompeprop, GUT, Oxidized Razor or Sterbehilfe. Also I'm a big fan of Oldschool Hardcore Bands like Urban Waste, The Wards, Neuroot or Chaos Z. Additional inspiration is provided by weird porn and bad horror movies.

3.Name somthing that pisses you off.

Police brutality, neo nazis, German politicians in general and The Irate Gamer.

4.Why would people be interested in listening to your band/project?

I try to keep my stuff interesting and try to incorporate new things into my style, so that it does not get stale. Also I try to always include some kind of over the top humor and like to experiment a lot. My goal is that my songs don't get boring. Who knows, maybe I'll do a Britney Spears cover next?

5.What is your oppinion on FREE downloading.

I am all in favor of free downloading. For many unknown bands it's a good way to get their names out and create a fanbase. And since my project is merely for fun, I think people should get my shit for free. Now if a Band manages to get a CD out and wants to sell it I don't complain about that but a free Download every now and then is always appreciated.

6.how much do you hate GORECYST?

So much it makes me wanna kill myself, come back as a zombie and eat all your brains (in a sweet and tender way though, kinda like softly nibbling on your medulla oblangata)!

7.any last comments?

Never whistle while you take a piss...

Here's Bloodgorge's submission for the Gorecyst Webzine:

1. Tell me a little bit about your band/project.
Bloodgorge plays goregrind with some mixed in elements from atmospheric music, sludge metal, and doom metal. The lyrics are based off ancient Japan, with shit like Samurais hacking eachother to pieces, etc.

2. What kind of music/band's inspire you to write and record?
Grind bands like Last Days of Humanity, Haemorrhage, Impetigo, and some doom/sludge metal bands like Electric Wizard, Grief, Dark Castle, and a few others.

3. Name something that pisses you off.
Religion.

4. Why would people be interested in listening to your band/project?
Because we're doing something original, and we're playing something original.

5. What is your opinion on FREE downloading?
I think it's perfectly fine. After all, the glory of being a musician is having people listen to your music. I personally don't care if someone would rather download then buy the disc. It's not like I'm making any money off the CDs anyway, haha.

6. How much do you hate GORECYST?
Gorecyst is fucking kickass.

7. Any last comments?
"I'm not a crook."

~INTERVIEW~

1. Our band is called Strägdaahk and we come from the high mountains of Victoria Road. This band was created as a recording project/artistic outlet for myself, Thor, and my dear friend Loki. We have been writing music for about 4 or 5 years now and things are only just starting to come to fruition now as I own recording gear and a studio inside my kitchen.

2. We are mostly influenced by the wind howling at night, the bird's singing in the morning and the sound of moose trudging though dreary marshes. On the rare occasion, we may break out an old Finntroll record and get stoned and laugh at it and enjoy ourselves, but we really hate metal. Especially bands like Moonsorrow and Silencer.... Bathory ruined music for everyone I think personally, and it's our duty as musicians to reclaim the black throne.

3. Oh ho ho ho, the one thing that pisses Strägdaahk off are fat lazy death metal singers who wear their xbox pajamas all day and scream at the TV. We also don't take kindly to old HBO series that went off the air (except for the occasional episode of Tenacious D). Other than that, we are generally happy people and we enjoy sipping on elm bark tea and frolicking with the deer and the butterflies in the spring. In winter, we make snow angels and drink apple cider. Oh, sunburns piss me off too... the main problem with living on a high mountain is being so close to the sun... The sun to us is a big inspiration though, so we usually don't let our sunburns hinder our progress.

4. People should be interested in listening to Strägdaahk because we offer something different than the current slew of "black metal" fascists are promoting. We live and breathe our music and it comes straight from the bottom of our norse lightning filled hearts. We feel as if we would die as lonely strangers in dark caverns if we didn't come out to play our songs underneath the beautiful mountain sun. My fingers get very cold in the wintertime, though which is painful because I love to play songs in the snow... but that just goes to show you how badly I need to play this music. I wouldn't trade what I have for anything in the world.

5. Strägdaahk generally feels that you should give us money on a daily basis, but if you want to download our music for free (or watch our videos on youtube) we won't scorn you or anything.... we may however utilize black magick to punish you for eternity, but no immediate effects will begin to show until you are nearer to your death bed.

6. Strägdaahk was the name of an ancient primordial dragon of the sun. His purpose was to burn the forests of earth so they could regenerate and blossom into even bigger forests. It is our duty as mortal men to make sure that the forests always exist so that one day Strägdaahk will return to burn them all down at the Ragnarok.

Stragdaahk is the greatest band in the world, and gorecyst is very proud to get this rare interview.
